Our Story
At Sustainable Saunas, we're on a mission to help people prioritize their health and well-being, while also protecting the environment.
The story began with our founder, Sam Jameson, travelling to Denmark to complete a Masters in Medicinal Chemistry. During his studies he gained an appreciation for the harmful effects chemicals can have on the human body and the environment.
Finishing his degree, Sam returned to his love for woodwork, a skill he had learnt growing up in New Zealand. Now equipped with his understanding of chemistry, Sam was shocked to learn what chemicals and materials were being used in the construction industry.
Gaining funding from the European Union, Sam started leading 'Sustainable Construction' projects for youth, educating young people about material use in construction, while teaching them to build.
Through these projects in Scandinavia, Sam felt privileged to learn how to build saunas in the place where they are the centre of any home.
Returning home to New Zealand, Sam wanted to share the wonders of sauna while honouring what he had learnt in the chemistry lab. And so, Sustainable Saunas was born.
Today, we are proud to offer saunas that are not only good for you, but for the planet too. Combining locally-sourced materials with a beautiful Scandinavian design, we're dedicated to providing you with the highest quality sauna experience possible.
